FAQ

What is Chafe-Pro™?

Chafe-Pro™ is a high-performance chafing protection solution designed to prevent abrasion damage to mooring lines, fender lines, eye splices, ship tow lines, hydraulic hoses, and shore power cables. It is trusted in the harshest marine environments worldwide.

What makes Chafe-Pro™ different from other chafe guards?

  • Ease of use: Can be installed or removed by hand, even on lines already under tension.
  • No need for lacing or tying: Secured with a unique nylon hook system for fast and reliable placement.
  • Superior durability: Made from abrasion-resistant, marine-grade polyester and nylon.
  • UV and mildew resistance: Built to withstand sun exposure and harsh marine environments.
  • Exceptional flexibility: Easily fits through tight spaces like chocks or around winches and capstans.
  • Custom solutions available: We can manufacture tailor-made chafe guards for any specific application.

What makes effective marine chafing gear?

To be truly effective, chafing gear should meet three critical criteria:

1. Abrasion Resistance

Marine environments cause constant friction against piers, chocks, and poorly aligned fairleads. Effective chafe gear must stand up to that abrasion to prevent damage to your lines. Chafe-Pro™ is engineered with high-grade textiles to withstand repeated rubbing and friction.

2. Flexibility

Chafing gear must conform to a line’s Dynamic Deployed Configuration (DDC)—especially when it bends tightly around chocks or bollards. Semi-rigid gear with polymer coatings can crack or delaminate under pressure, reducing protection. Chafe-Pro™, made from flexible nylon, adapts to changing line shapes under load, both static and dynamic.

3. Tensile Strength While chafing gear isn’t meant to bear load, it must be strong enough to stretch and recoil with the line as it surges. Materials that can’t follow this motion are prone to breaking. Chafe-Pro™’s proprietary nylon weave is both strong and resilient—delivering long-lasting protection without failing under pressure.

How do I install Chafe-Pro™?

Simply wrap the unit around the line where protection is needed and secure it using the integrated hook system. No tools, lacing, or untying required—even works on lines already under load.

Is Chafe-Pro™ suitable for long-term outdoor use?

Yes. All Chafe-Pro™ units are UV-protected and mildew-resistant, ensuring long-lasting protection in marine environments.

Can I use Chafe-Pro™ in tight spaces like chocks or eye splices?

Absolutely. Chafe-Pro™ is designed for high flexibility, making it suitable for installations involving eye splices, windlasses, capstans, or through narrow deck fittings.

Do you offer custom sizes or designs?

Yes, we specialize in custom manufacturing. Whether you need protection for oversized lines, unique tow setups, or specialized equipment, we can create a Chafe-Pro™ solution tailored to your needs.

Which types of lines can I protect with Chafe-Pro™?

Chafe-Pro™ is ideal for:

  • Mooring lines
  • Fender lines
  • Eye splices
  • Ship assist and tow lines
  • Hydraulic hoses
  • Shore power lines
